1. The Hillside and Ridgetop Plan was created in response to the placement of a water tower in South Knoxville. The goal of the plan was to preserve scenic vistas and protect water quality. What is your position on the recommendations of the plan?
I support a strong Hillside and Ridgetop Plan that allows for appropriate quality development and protects our greatest economic and environmental assets. While I encourage compromise to move toward a final product, the end result must preserve our scenic vistas, protect water quality, and provide certainty regarding the regulations to developers.
2. Where do you think greenways should be connected or expanded? What should you do to accomplish this?
City Council has adopted a greenways plan as part of the Knoxville-Knox County Park, Recreation, and Greenways Plan. As Mayor, I will allocate funds each year to implement the plan and be pro-active in seeking grants to promote the greenways. I will also work with Legacy Parks to promote the 1000 acres of Urban Wilderness.
3. Due to recent storms, many trees on city property such as road medians have been lost. Would you support a one time appropriation of funds to replace those trees on city property?
I think it’s important that we replace the trees that have been lost while we continue our commitment of planting more trees in Knoxville. I will look for funds in the city budget and/or seek grants to support the replacement of those that have been lost.
Thank you!
